All about the intricacies
A deep family connection was the reason behind Geoff Thompson creating 'Handborough'. His great-grandfather and uncle both worked at the station and his father lived just 300 yards away from the platforms. Indeed, it was his father who began the layout in 1985, modelling the pre-war and wartime era, and it was Geoff who brought the layout into the 1960s. He also turned what was an end-to-end layout into a circuit.
Handborough has a significant place in British history, but strangely is not one that everybody will necessarily have heard of. As the closest station to Sir Winston Churchill's burial place of Blenheim Palace, it was at Handborough that his funeral train terminated on January 30th 1965.
