The Basildon Model Railway Club have marked the 150th anniversary of the London Underground by depicting one of the capital's most famous abandoned stations in their 'OO' layout. Since its closure in 1994, Aldwych station has found a second home as a star of the silver screen, but before then it was a bustling terminus for passengers at the northern end of the Piccadilly line to reach the River Thames.
The club have chosen the early 1950's for their layout when the country was still recovering from the Second World War and unexploded bombs were a regular occurrence in London. On 'Aldwych' a construction site has been halted after discovering one in the foundations.
