Dapol 'A1X' 0-6-0T. JACQUES PORTAL

We reviewed Dapol’s ‘O’ gauge ‘A1’ 0‑6‑0T, the company’s entry into the ‘O’ gauge locomotive market, in the November 2015 issue.


The ‘A1’ was built to William Stroudley’s design but, during the reign of LB&SCR Locomotive Superintendent Douglas Marsh, they were given new boilers, among other modifications, and reclassified ‘A1X’. This gave the little ‘Terrier’ the look that we’re most familiar with, the characteristic extended smokebox starring in many images of, for example, the Hayling Island branch, the Isle of Wight and, of course, the Bluebell Railway...
