We certainly live in a ‘want it all, now’ society and that’s even seeped into model railways. If there’s a gap in the ranks of ready-to-run models, we want that gap filling. Immediately.
But then there are obvious gaps which go unfilled year after year.
The old Airfix GWR ‘14XX’ in Hornby’s range was… OK. The basic shape was correct but the smokebox was poor and performance could be problematic. It’s been crying out for a re-tool to bring it up to 21st century standards, and enable detail differences to be reproduced, including the non‑autofitted ‘58XX’ version...
